How Many Days Until My Birthday?
A July 4 birthday is 260 days away from October 17, 2026, and it lands on a Sunday. That is 37 weeks and 1 day, or 6,240 hours. The table under the result lists your next five birthdays with a count and a weekday for each one.

How the calculator finds your next birthday
Your next birthday is the next time the calendar reaches your birth month and day. The tool builds that date in the current year, checks whether it has already passed, and if it has, builds the same month and day in the following year. Then it subtracts today from that date. The result is a count of whole calendar days.
Two things follow from that method:
- Today is not counted. If your birthday is tomorrow, the answer is 1. If it is today, the answer is 0 and the result says so.
- Time of day does not move the number. At 11 p.m. on the night before your birthday the count still reads 1. Counting exact hours is a separate row, and that row treats the birthday as starting at midnight.
Because the arithmetic runs on calendar dates rather than on 24-hour blocks, the same pair of dates gives the same answer in every state and every time zone. The US Naval Observatory calendar pages are a good reference for how the Gregorian calendar assigns dates and month lengths.
Worked example: a July 4 birthday counted from October 17, 2026
Take a birth date of July 4, 1990 and a start date of October 17, 2026. July 4 has already passed in 2026, so the next one is July 4, 2027. Add up the whole days in between:
- October 17 to October 31: 14 days
- November 30 days, December 31 days: 61 days
- January 31 days, February 2027 has 28: 59 days
- March 31, April 30, May 31, June 30: 122 days
- July 1 to July 4: 4 days
14 + 61 + 59 + 122 + 4 = 260 days. Divided by seven, that is 37 weeks and 1 day. In hours it is 260 × 24 = 6,240 hours, and in minutes 260 × 1,440 = 374,400 minutes. July 4, 2027 falls on a Sunday, and a person born in 1990 turns 37 that day.
February 2027 has 28 days because 2027 is not a leap year. Run the same start date one year later, October 17, 2027, and the count is 260 days again, because 2027 and 2028 both keep the same month lengths up to July. Only a February 29 inside the span adds a day to the total.
Birthday on the first of the month, counted from October 17, 2026
This table fixes the start date at October 17, 2026 and counts to a birthday on the first day of each month. It is the fastest way to check the calculator against a date you already know, and it shows how uneven the monthly spacing looks once the count passes a year boundary.
| Birthday | Days away | Weeks and days | Falls on |
|---|---|---|---|
| November 1, 2026 | 15 | 2 weeks 1 day | Sunday |
| December 1, 2026 | 45 | 6 weeks 3 days | Tuesday |
| January 1, 2027 | 76 | 10 weeks 6 days | Friday |
| February 1, 2027 | 107 | 15 weeks 2 days | Monday |
| March 1, 2027 | 135 | 19 weeks 2 days | Monday |
| April 1, 2027 | 166 | 23 weeks 5 days | Thursday |
| May 1, 2027 | 196 | 28 weeks exactly | Saturday |
| June 1, 2027 | 227 | 32 weeks 3 days | Tuesday |
| July 1, 2027 | 257 | 36 weeks 5 days | Thursday |
| August 1, 2027 | 288 | 41 weeks 1 day | Sunday |
| September 1, 2027 | 319 | 45 weeks 4 days | Wednesday |
| October 1, 2027 | 349 | 49 weeks 6 days | Friday |
Two rows are worth checking by hand. November 1 is 15 days out because October has 31 days and 31 - 17 = 14 of them remain, plus 1 day in November. October 1 is 349 days out because the 2026 birthday has already gone, so the count runs almost a full year forward. The monthly steps alternate between 28 and 31 days, which is why the weeks column never lands on a clean pattern.
Your next five birthdays, and why the gaps change
The tool lists the next five birthdays, not just the next one. That matters when you are planning a party, a trip or a gift that has to ship, because a date that falls on a Tuesday this year may land on a weekend two years out.
| Birthday | Days from October 17, 2026 | Gap from the birthday before | Falls on | Age |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| July 4, 2027 | 260 | 365 | Sunday | 37 |
| July 4, 2028 | 626 | 366 | Tuesday | 38 |
| July 4, 2029 | 991 | 365 | Wednesday | 39 |
| July 4, 2030 | 1,356 | 365 | Thursday | 40 |
| July 4, 2031 | 1,721 | 365 | Friday | 41 |
Four of those five gaps are 365 days. The 2028 birthday is 366 days after the 2027 one because February 29, 2028 sits inside the span. That single extra day explains two things people notice: a count that grew by 365 last year grows by 366 this year, and the weekday jumps by two days instead of one across a leap year. July 4 moves from Sunday in 2027 to Tuesday in 2028, then one day at a time through Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.
When a day count is not precise enough: hours, minutes and birth time
The hours and minutes rows multiply the day count by 24 and by 1,440. That treats the birthday as starting at midnight. If you want the count to the exact minute you were born, subtract your birth time from midnight: someone born at 6:40 a.m. has 18 hours and 40 minutes less to wait than the midnight figure shows.
Time zones add another wrinkle. A person born in Manila and now living in Chicago has a birth date recorded in one zone and celebrates in another, and near midnight the local calendar date can differ by a day. The count of whole dates does not change; only the hour figure shifts.
| Days | Weeks | Hours | Minutes |
|---|---|---|---|
| 7 | 1 | 168 | 10,080 |
| 30 | 4 weeks 2 days | 720 | 43,200 |
| 90 | 12 weeks 6 days | 2,160 | 129,600 |
| 180 | 25 weeks 5 days | 4,320 | 259,200 |
| 260 | 37 weeks 1 day | 6,240 | 374,400 |
| 365 | 52 weeks 1 day | 8,760 | 525,600 |
Read the last row as a sanity check: a birthday that is one year away is 365 days, 52 weeks and a day, 8,760 hours and 525,600 minutes. If a countdown you see online gives 8,784 hours for that same year, it has added the leap day of a year that is not in the span.
Planning backwards from the birthday
Party planning usually runs in the other direction, so here are the dates that sit a fixed number of days before July 4, 2027, the next birthday in the example above.
- 60 days before: May 5, 2027, a Wednesday, the latest sensible date to book a summer venue.
- 45 days before: May 20, 2027, a Thursday, when invitations go out for a destination party.
- 30 days before: June 4, 2027, a Friday, a common cut-off for custom cakes and printed favors.
- 14 days before: June 20, 2027, a Sunday, the usual deadline for a restaurant head count.
- 7 days before: June 27, 2027, a Sunday, when you confirm the guest list and the cake pickup time.
Each date is the birthday minus the stated number of days, which is the same subtraction this page runs in reverse. For a different birthday, enter your date, read the count, and subtract the lead time your vendor asks for. A venue that wants eight weeks of notice on a July 4 party needs a booking by May 9, 2027, which is 56 days before the date.
Leap day birthdays: February 29 in a common year
A February 29 birthday exists only once every four years, so the other three years need a rule. This tool rolls the date to March 1, the day after the missing date. From October 17, 2026 that puts the next celebration on March 1, 2027, 135 days out. The next true February 29 is February 29, 2028, 500 days from the same start date.
The Gregorian rule is a little more involved than the plain every four years rule. A year divisible by 4 is a leap year, a year divisible by 100 is not, and a year divisible by 400 is again. So 2000 was a leap year, 1900 was not, and 2100 will not be. The US Naval Observatory explanation of leap years sets out the full rule and the reason the calendar needs it.
If you would rather celebrate on February 28, the count is one day shorter than the March 1 figure. The tool uses March 1 because that is the date the calendar reaches next, and it keeps the count from ever landing on a date that does not exist.
Midnight, time zones and the off-by-one question
Two tools can disagree by one day on the same birthday, and the reason is almost always the definition of today. This page counts the days between two calendar dates, so the day before your birthday is 1 and the birthday itself is 0. A countdown that treats today as day one reports one more than this page for every date.
Neither answer is wrong; they answer different questions. Use the exclusive count from this page when you want to know how many nights of sleep are left. Use the inclusive count when you are numbering days on a calendar, the way an advent calendar numbers December 1 as day one.
The number changes at midnight in your local time zone, not at midnight UTC, because the date boxes are read as local calendar dates. Official timekeeping and time zone rules are maintained by the NIST Time and Frequency Division. Daylight saving does not move the count either: a spring-forward day is 23 hours long, but it is still one calendar day, and this tool never divides by 24 to find the date.
Frequently asked questions
How many days until my birthday if it is next month?
It depends on the month and on today's date. From October 17, 2026 a November 1 birthday is 15 days away, while a December 1 birthday is 45 days away. The calculator handles any month, so enter your date and read the exact figure.
Does the countdown include the birthday itself?
No. It counts the days between today and your birthday, so the day before your birthday reads 1 and the birthday itself reads 0. If you prefer to count today as day one, add 1 to the answer.
How many weeks is 260 days?
260 days is 37 weeks and 1 day, because 37 × 7 = 259. The tool prints the weeks and leftover days next to the main count so you do not have to divide in your head.
Why does the count grow by 366 days some years instead of 365?
A leap day adds one day to the span. From July 4, 2027 to July 4, 2028 is 366 days because February 29, 2028 falls inside that window, while the four other gaps between 2027 and 2031 are 365 days.
How many days until my 40th birthday?
Enter your birth date and read the age row. Someone born on July 4, 1990 turns 40 on July 4, 2030, which is 1,356 days after October 17, 2026.
What if I was born on February 29?
In a year without a February 29 the tool uses March 1. From October 17, 2026 that puts the next celebration on March 1, 2027, 135 days away. The next real February 29 is 2028, 500 days from the same start date.
What if my birthday already passed this year?
The count rolls forward to next year instead of showing a negative number. A birthday on October 1 is 349 days away on October 17, 2026, because the 2026 date is already gone.
How many hours is 260 days?
260 days is 6,240 hours, or 374,400 minutes. The hours row multiplies the day count by 24 and assumes the birthday starts at midnight.
Can I count down from a date other than today?
Yes. The Count from box accepts any date, so you can check a countdown for a future party date or look back at how the number stood on a past date.
Why is my count one day different from another website?
Most of the gap comes from whether today counts as day one. This page counts whole days between dates, so tomorrow is 1. A countdown that starts at 1 for today reports one more for every date.
Does daylight saving time change the answer?
No. A spring-forward day is 23 hours long but still counts as one calendar day, and this tool works on dates rather than on 24-hour blocks, so the count never shifts by an hour.
How many days until my half birthday?
A half birthday is six months after your birthday. For a July 4 birthday that is January 4, 2028, which is 444 days after October 17, 2026.
What weekday will my next birthday fall on?
The result names the weekday. July 4, 2027 is a Sunday, and the weekday moves one day later each common year and two days later across a leap year.
Is my birth date stored anywhere?
No. The calculation runs in your browser, the date you type is never uploaded, and nothing is saved on our servers or in a cookie.
