Working Days Calculator

250 working days are in 2026: 261 weekdays minus the 11 federal holidays that land on weekdays. That is 2,000 hours at eight hours a day. November 2, 2026 plus 10 working days is November 17, because Veterans Day sits between them.

Federal holidays follow the OPM schedule for every year in the range. Both the start and end date count if they are working days. Everything runs in your browser, and nothing you type is uploaded or stored.

Enter two dates to count the working days between them with federal holidays and your own days off removed, add working days to a deadline, or convert the count into hours.

What counts as a working day

A working day is a day most people show up: Monday through Friday, minus public holidays. The count starts from the calendar, drops the weekends, then drops the holidays. In 2026 that means 365 calendar days, 261 weekdays, and 250 working days once the 11 federal holidays that land on weekdays are removed.

Two details move the total from year to year. Leap years add a weekday, which is why 2024 holds 251 working days and 2025 holds 250. And a holiday that lands on a weekend shifts to the nearest weekday for most employees, which changes which day disappears but not how many.

202536526111250
202636526111250
202736526112249

One quirk sits in 2027. New Year's Day 2028 falls on a Saturday, so federal offices observe it on Friday, December 31, 2027. That gives 2027 a twelfth observed holiday and 249 working days instead of 250.

The 11 federal holidays of 2026

Federal law, 5 U.S.C. 6103, sets 11 holidays for federal employees, and state and local governments plus most private employers track the same list. When one lands on a Saturday it is usually observed on Friday, and on a Sunday it moves to Monday, per the OPM federal holiday schedule.

Christmas DayDecember 25Friday

The calculator above applies the same observance rule: July 4, 2026 falls on a Saturday, so the working day that disappears is Friday, July 3. Your employer may not close for all 11, and a few states add their own, which is what the extra days box is for.

Counting working days between two dates

Take November 1 to December 31, 2026, a 61 day window at the end of the year. The weekends remove 17 days, and three federal holidays fall on weekdays in the span: Veterans Day on November 11, Thanksgiving on November 26 and Christmas on December 25. That leaves 41 working days, so about two thirds of the calendar in that stretch is worked.

The same count is what project plans run on. A task with 15 working days of effort started on a Monday does not finish in two calendar weeks once a holiday lands inside the span, and a builder who promises 60 working days is promising about 12 weeks plus the holidays. When a count matters for money, write down the convention: whether the start and end dates count, and which holidays apply. Both ends count in this calculator if they are themselves working days.

Adding working days to a date

The second half of the calculator walks forward. Enter 10 working days from Monday, November 2, 2026, and the count skips the weekend of November 7 and 8, the weekend of November 14 and 15, and Veterans Day on November 11, then lands on Tuesday, November 17. Ten working days from a Monday took fourteen calendar days because one holiday sat in the way.

This is the arithmetic behind most notice periods and payment terms. A landlord who must give 30 days notice, a vendor on net 30 terms or an insurer with a 15 working day window all count like this, and each convention differs: some count the day after the event, some count the day itself, and some only stop the clock on holidays the office observes. Add a day of slack for the difference and state the rule in writing, because the phrase working days is defined by whoever wrote the deadline.

Working days, business days and calendar days

The terms overlap, but the differences decide real deadlines. Calendar days include weekends. Working days and business days usually mean the same thing, Monday to Friday minus holidays. Court rules are their own world: Federal Rule of Civil Procedure 6(a) counts every day, weekends included, and only slides a deadline that lands on a weekend or holiday to the next business day.

Because the meanings differ, contracts spell out which one applies. If a lease says days, it means calendar days in most states. If it says business days, weekends and the holidays named in the contract drop out of the count.

From working days to hours and pay

Hours come from a second input: how long a working day runs. The standard full time year is 40 hours a week for 52 weeks, or 2,080 hours, which is 260 weekdays at 8 hours. The federal holidays take out 80 of those hours in 2026, leaving 250 working days and 2,000 hours. The Department of Labor hours worked rules cover what counts as hours for pay, which is a separate question from how many days exist.

SpanWorking daysHours at 8 a day
One week540
Biweekly pay period1080
Average month21.7173.3
One quarter65520
Year of weekdays2602,080
2026 after holidays2502,000

Pay math follows the same lines. A $52,000 salary over 2,080 hours is $25.00 an hour, and over 250 working days it is $208.00 a day. An hourly worker paid for holidays sees no gap; one who must make the hours up does, which is why the same calendar year can hold different earnings for two people on the same schedule.

Weekends that are not Saturday and Sunday

Not everyone rests on the same two days. Retail, hospitality, healthcare and plants run seven days a week, and a Sunday only weekend is common in parts of the world and in some six day operations. The calculator's weekend menu covers the common patterns: Saturday and Sunday, Sunday only, Friday and Saturday, or none, where every day counts and only holidays remove days.

Compressed schedules change the hours instead of the days. A 4/10 schedule runs four ten hour days, so set the hours per day box to 10 and the weekend to three days by entering the extra day in the days off box. The count of working days stays lower than a 5/8 schedule, but the hours land in the same place. What matters for a deadline is the pattern of the office you owe the work to, not your own habits.

When your count and the calendar disagree

Employers close for days the federal calendar ignores. Some add state holidays, an election day, a plant shutdown week or the day after Thanksgiving and Christmas Eve, both of which many offices treat as full days off. Floating holidays and personal days sit outside any public list. The extra days box exists for this: enter dates like 2026-11-27, 2026-12-24 and they are removed from the count like holidays, with each one named in the results.

The reverse case matters too. Hospitals, call centers and utility crews staff holidays, so for them a federal holiday is a working day with premium pay, and the checkbox should stay off. The honest rule is to count the schedule of the organization that owns the deadline. When a vendor says 15 working days, ask whether their holiday list matches yours, because one shared holiday in the span moves the delivery date a full day.

Frequently asked questions

How many working days are in 2026?

250. The year holds 261 weekdays, and 11 federal holidays land on weekdays once observances are applied, including Independence Day, which falls on a Saturday and is observed on Friday, July 3.

How many working hours are in a year?

A standard full time year is 2,080 hours: 40 hours a week for 52 weeks. After the 11 federal holidays, 2026 holds 250 working days, or 2,000 hours at eight hours a day.

What is 10 working days from November 2, 2026?

Tuesday, November 17, 2026. The count skips the weekends of November 7 to 8 and November 14 to 15, plus Veterans Day on November 11, so 10 working days take 14 calendar days.

Do holidays count as working days?

No. Working days exclude weekends and public holidays. If July 4 lands on a Saturday, as it does in 2026, the observed holiday is usually Friday, July 3, and that Friday is the day removed from the count.

How many weekend days are in 2026?

104. The year has 365 days and 261 weekdays, so 104 days fall on Saturday or Sunday, which is 52 full weekends.

Do I count the start and end dates?

In this calculator both dates count if they are working days, the same way a count from January 1 to December 31 covers New Year's Day to Christmas Eve. Many contracts count from the day after, so check the wording before relying on a number.

How many working days are between November 1 and December 31, 2026?

41. The 61 calendar days include 17 weekend days and three holidays on weekdays: Veterans Day, Thanksgiving and Christmas.

How many working days are in a pay period?

A weekly period holds 5, a biweekly period holds 10, and a semimonthly cycle averages about 21.7 working days per month, since 260 weekdays spread over 12 months.

Why did 2024 have 251 working days but 2025 has 250?

2024 was a leap year with 366 days, which pushed it to 262 weekdays, one more than the 261 in 2025. Both years carry 11 holidays on weekdays, so the working day totals differ by one.

What is the difference between working days and calendar days?

Calendar days include weekends and holidays; working days skip them. Federal court deadlines under Rule 6(a) count calendar days, while notice periods and payment terms in contracts often count working days, so the same number can mean dates weeks apart.

How do I convert working days to weeks?

Divide by 5. Forty one working days is 8.2 weeks, and 250 working days is 50 weeks. The conversion ignores holidays, so add them back when precision matters.

What if my employer closes on extra days?

Enter them in the extra days box in the format 2026-11-27, 2026-12-24, and the calculator removes them like holidays and lists each one in the results.

How many working days are in an average month?

About 21.7, which is 260 weekdays divided by 12 months. Actual months range from 19 to 23 depending on where the weekends land.
