Amazon FBA Fee Calculator

A $24 item in a 12 x 9 x 4 inch box carries a $7.30 fulfillment fee and a $3.60 referral fee per unit. Storage adds $0.20 per unit per month off peak, so selling 500 a month leaves $6,454.13 after Amazon takes $5,545.88.

Enter your price, box size and weight to see the FBA fulfillment fee, the referral fee and monthly storage as three separate lines, then the net left per unit.

What an FBA seller pays on every unit

Selling through Fulfillment by Amazon means Amazon picks, packs and ships the item for you, and it charges for that on every unit. The money Amazon takes is not one number. It is several fees stacked on top of each other, and each one is worked out differently, so a single percentage guess will send you wrong.

This calculator breaks the stack into the three lines that matter: the fulfillment fee, the referral fee and the monthly storage fee. It uses the 2026 US fulfillment rate card published on Amazon Seller Central, which took effect on January 15, 2026. Amazon also runs higher peak rates from October 15 to January 14, and it has applied a 3.5% fuel and logistics surcharge since April 17, 2026.

Rates change, and the current rate card in Seller Central is the one that counts. Use this as a planning estimate before you price a product, then confirm the exact figure for your own SKU in the Revenue Calculator or the Fee and Economics Preview report inside your seller account.

Three separate fees, three separate lines

The three fees are charged at different times, on different bases, and by different rules. Keeping them apart is the whole point, because each one has a different fix.

FeeWhat it coversWhen it is chargedWhat it is based on
Fulfillment feePick, pack, ship and customer servicePer unit, when the order shipsSize tier, shipping weight and price band
Referral feeAmazon's commission on the salePer unit, when the order shipsA percentage of the total sales price, usually 15%
Monthly storage feeSpace in the fulfillment centerMonthly, on average daily volumeCubic feet, the season and your storage ratio

The fulfillment fee falls when you make the box smaller. The referral fee falls only when you change the category or the price. The storage fee falls when you hold less stock or turn it faster. Three different problems, three different fixes, which is why you should never add them into one blended percentage.

The referral fee is a percentage of the total sales price, the item price plus any shipping and gift wrap the buyer pays, with a per item minimum of $0.30. Amazon lists the rates by category on its referral fees page. Home and Kitchen, Office Products, Toys and Games, Pet Products and most other categories sit at 15%, while a few, such as Baby Products and Beauty, drop to 8% on items priced at $10.00 or less.

Size tier decides the fulfillment fee

The size tier is the biggest single lever on the fulfillment fee. A small standard item can ship for about $3.32, while the same item that tips into large standard can cost well over $5.00. Amazon sets the tier from the packaged dimensions and the weight.

Size tierSize limit2026 non-peak fee, $10 to $50Weight rule
Small standard15 x 12 x 0.75 in$2.43 to $3.96Unit weight only, 16 oz or less
Large standard18 x 14 x 8 in$3.73 to $6.97 plus $0.08 per 4 oz over 3 lbGreater of unit or dimensional weight, up to 20 lb
Small bulkyAbove large standard$7.55 plus $0.38 per lb over the first lbGreater of unit or dimensional weight
Large bulkyAbove large standard$9.35 plus $0.38 per lb over the first lbGreater of unit or dimensional weight
Extra-large 0 to 50 lbAbove large standard$26.33 plus $0.38 per lb over the first lbGreater of unit or dimensional weight

Price matters too. The 2026 card has three price bands: under $10, $10 to $50 and over $50. A small standard item at 2 oz costs $2.43 under $10, $3.32 in the middle band and $3.58 above $50. Products priced under $10 get Low Price FBA rates that Amazon says run $0.86 per unit less on average than the standard rates.

The rates above are the non-peak card that took effect January 15, 2026. Peak rates, which apply from October 15 to January 14, run higher on the same tiers, and the 3.5% fuel and logistics surcharge sits on top of both.

Weight or dimensional weight, whichever is bigger

For everything except small standard, Amazon bills on the greater of the unit weight and the dimensional weight. Dimensional weight is the volume of the box turned into a weight, and in the US it comes from dividing the cubic size by 139.

That single line is where most new sellers lose money. The item weighs three quarters of a pound, but Amazon charges as if it weighed just over three pounds, because the box is mostly air. Amazon published the same arithmetic in its own example of a monitor packed at 54 x 35 x 3.5 inches, where the 41 lb unit was billed on a dimensional weight of 47.59 lb.

Two moves fix this. Shrink the box, because the divisor of 139 means every 139 cubic inches you take out is a pound off the billed weight. Or make the product flat, because a thin item can drop into small standard where unit weight alone is used.

Worked example: a $24 item at 500 units a month

Take a $24 item that weighs 12 oz and ships in a 12 x 9 x 4 inch box, selling 500 units a month with 500 units sitting in the warehouse.

Over a month of 500 units, that is $3,648.37 in fulfillment fees, $1,800.00 in referral fees and $97.50 in storage, or $5,545.88 in total against $12,000.00 of revenue. What is left is $6,454.13, and out of that you still have to pay for the product itself, inbound shipping and any advertising.

Now change one number. Pack the same item in a flatter 12 x 9 x 2 inch box and the dimensional weight drops to 1.56 lb, which lands in the 1.5+ to 1.75 lb band at $5.57, or $5.76 with the surcharge. That is $1.54 a unit back, or $770 a month on 500 units, for a box change.

Storage fees and the October jump

Storage is a monthly charge on the space your inventory takes up, worked out from your average daily volume in cubic feet. It is the fee most easy to forget, because it does not show up on the order line. It shows up at the end of the month.

Size tierJanuary to SeptemberOctober to DecemberUtilization surcharge
Standard size$0.78 per cubic foot$2.40 per cubic foot$0.44 to $1.88 per cubic foot above 22 weeks of supply
Oversize$0.56 per cubic foot$1.40 per cubic foot$0.23 to $1.26 per cubic foot above 22 weeks of supply
Dangerous goods$0.99 per cubic foot$3.63 per cubic footNot applied

The October jump is more than three times the off peak rate, so stock that sits through the holidays is expensive. On 500 units of the 0.25 cubic foot example, that is $97.50 a month from January to September and $300.00 a month in the fourth quarter.

Amazon also adds a storage utilization surcharge once your inventory runs past 22 weeks of supply, measured as the ratio of stored volume to shipped volume. The full rate table is on the monthly inventory storage fees page. A slow mover can end up paying $1.22 to $2.66 per cubic foot instead of $0.78, which turns a cheap product into a losing one.

The fees this calculator does not cover

Three main charges sit outside this calculator, and they are real money on some SKUs.

Apparel uses a different fulfillment rate card, so clothing sellers should read the apparel table rather than the one on this page. Other charges can apply too, including removal and disposal order fees, returns processing on some categories, and refund administration fees of 20% of the referral fee on a refunded order.

Advertising is not an Amazon fee but it belongs in the same calculation. Sponsored Products cost comes straight off the margin you just worked out, so treat the net figure from this calculator as the ceiling for what you can spend to win a sale.

How to check your numbers before you price a product

Before you commit to a price, run the same product through three checks.

For the money side of running the business around these fees, the Small Business Administration's guide to managing your business covers bookkeeping, taxes and cash flow for small sellers.

This is a planning estimate built on the 2026 non-peak rate card published January 15, 2026, and it excludes apparel. Amazon revises fees on set dates, runs a separate peak card from October 15 to January 14, and adds a 3.5% fuel and logistics surcharge from April 17, 2026. Confirm your own figures in Seller Central before you price or reorder.

Frequently asked questions

What are the 2026 Amazon FBA fulfillment fees?

The 2026 non-peak card took effect January 15, 2026. A small standard item at 2 oz costs $2.43 under $10, $3.32 from $10 to $50 and $3.58 above $50. Large standard runs from $3.73 at 4 oz to $6.97 for the first 3 lb, plus $0.08 per 4 oz above that.

How much does Amazon charge to fulfill a $24 item?

For a large standard item in a 12 x 9 x 4 inch box, the fee is $6.97 for the first 3 lb plus $0.08 for one 4 oz interval, which is $7.05. With the 3.5% surcharge in force since April 17, 2026, that is $7.30 per unit.

What is the Amazon referral fee percentage?

Most categories are 15% of the total sales price, with a per item minimum of $0.30. Some categories are cheaper on low priced goods, such as Baby Products and Beauty at 8% for items priced $10.00 or less.

How is FBA dimensional weight calculated?

Multiply the packaged length, width and height in inches, then divide by 139. A 12 x 9 x 4 inch box is 432 cubic inches, and 432 / 139 = 3.11 lb. Amazon bills on the greater of that and the unit weight.

How much is FBA storage per cubic foot?

Standard size is $0.78 per cubic foot from January to September and $2.40 per cubic foot from October to December. Oversize is $0.56 and $1.40. A utilization surcharge of $0.44 to $1.88 per cubic foot applies above 22 weeks of supply.

When do peak FBA fees apply?

Peak fulfillment rates run from October 15 to January 14. The card on this page is the non-peak card that took effect January 15, 2026. Check Seller Central for the peak table that applies to the current season.

What is the 3.5% fuel and logistics surcharge?

It is an extra charge on FBA fulfillment fees in the US and Canada that started on April 17, 2026. On a $7.05 fulfillment fee it adds $0.25, taking the fee to $7.30.

What size counts as small standard on Amazon?

Up to 15 x 12 x 0.75 inches and 16 oz or less, measured as packaged and ready to ship. Small standard is the only tier billed on unit weight alone rather than the greater of unit or dimensional weight.

What size counts as large standard on Amazon?

Up to 18 x 14 x 8 inches and 20 lb or less. Large standard is billed on the greater of unit weight or dimensional weight, which is why a light item in a big box can cost far more than its scale weight suggests.

Why is my FBA fee higher than the item's weight suggests?

Because dimensional weight is used whenever it is higher than the unit weight. A 12 oz item in a 12 x 9 x 4 inch box is billed at 3.11 lb. Shrinking the box is the fastest way to cut the fee.

Does the fee change with the selling price?

Yes. There are three price bands: under $10, $10 to $50 and over $50. Items under $10 get Low Price FBA rates that Amazon says run $0.86 per unit less on average, and items over $50 pay the highest band.

What fees does this calculator leave out?

The inbound placement service fee, the low inventory level fee charged below 28 days of supply, the aged inventory surcharge, removal and disposal fees, and apparel rates, which use a different card.

How much of a $24 sale does Amazon keep?

On the worked example, $7.30 in fulfillment fees and $3.60 in referral fees, which is $10.90 of the $24.00, or 45.4%. Storage adds $0.20 per unit per month at the off peak rate, and product cost and advertising come out of what is left.

How do I lower my FBA fees?

Shrink the box first, since every 139 cubic inches is a pound of billed weight. Then check whether the product can be packed flat enough to drop into small standard, and keep stock under 22 weeks of supply to avoid the storage surcharge.

Are these the rates Amazon will charge me?

Treat them as a planning estimate. Amazon revises fees on set dates, runs a separate peak card from October 15 to January 14, and applies the 3.5% surcharge from April 17, 2026. Confirm the current rate card in Seller Central before you rely on it.

How many units do I need to sell to cover $5,545.88 in monthly fees?

At $13.10 of net per unit before product cost, 424 units covers the $5,545.88 shown in the worked example. That is only the Amazon fee line, so your product cost and advertising have to come out of the same $13.10 per unit.
