Depop's fee structure in 2026
Depop's fee structure changed completely in 2024, and a lot of the advice online is out of date. For sellers based in the US, UK and Australia there is now no selling fee, the old 10% commission is gone. What remains is payment processing:
- US: 3.3% + $0.45 per order, charged on the item price plus the shipping the buyer pays and any applicable tax.
- UK: 2.9% + £0.30; Australia: 2.6% + A$0.30.
- Everywhere else: a 10% selling fee plus 3.49% + $0.49 processing.
On top of that, optional Boosted Listings add 12% of the item price when a boosted listing sells. Depop publishes the current table in its seller fees and charges help article. The calculator lets you pick your market and toggle Boost, so you can see both the fee and the money that lands in your account.
Worked example: a $40 item with $5 shipping
Calculator defaults: a $40 item with $5 shipping, US market, no Boost.
- Selling fee: $0.00 (US)
- Payment processing (3.3% × $45 + $0.45): $1.94
- Total Depop fees: $1.94
Depop keeps $1.94 out of a $45 order, just 4.3%. Your costs are the item ($12) plus shipping ($4.50) = $16.50, so your profit is $45 − $1.94 − $16.50 = $26.56, a 59% margin. Poshmark would take 20% ($8.00) on the same item, and eBay would take about $6.52. Depop is the cheapest of the resale apps on fees; the trade-off is a younger, more fashion-focused audience and lower average order value.
How Boost changes the math
Boost is Depop's paid promotion, and it changes the math more than people expect. Boosting a listing costs 12% of the item price when a buyer who saw the boosted listing buys within 28 days. It's optional, and you're only charged on boosted sales.
Take the same $40 item. Boost adds 12% × $40 = $4.80 to the $1.94 processing, so total fees are $6.74 and your profit falls from $26.56 to $21.76, the boost costs 10.7% of the order. That's only worth it if it generates enough extra sales to cover it. If boosting lifts an item from one sale a month to two, the extra sale's profit ($21.76) easily beats the $4.80 boost cost. If it lifts nothing, you've paid $4.80 for a click. Track boosted sales separately in the app before you boost a whole closet.
Depop fees at a glance
What Depop charges, by market and option:
| Market | Selling fee | Processing | Boost |
|---|---|---|---|
| US | 0% | 3.3% + $0.45 | 12% |
| UK | 0% | 2.9% + £0.30 | 12% |
| Australia | 0% | 2.6% + A$0.30 | 12% |
| Other markets | 10% | 3.49% + $0.49 | 12% |
In the US, processing is charged on the item price plus buyer-paid shipping and tax. Where a selling fee applies, it's charged on the item price only.
Why 0% doesn't mean free
"0% selling fee" sounds free, but processing still comes off every order, and it's charged on more than the item price. Because Depop's US processing applies to the item plus shipping plus tax, the more you charge for postage, the more you pay.
Example: a $15 item with free shipping, where the shipping costs you $4.50. The buyer pays $15, processing is 3.3% × $15 + $0.45 = $0.95, and your net before costs is $14.05. Subtract the $4.50 you spent on shipping and the item's cost, and a cheap item can easily lose money. Offering free shipping lowers your margin without lowering the fee, because the fee was never on the shipping in the first place, it's on what the buyer pays, which is now just the item price.
What the buyer pays vs what you pay
Depop charges buyers separately. Depending on the market, buyers may see a marketplace fee or buyer-protection charge added at checkout, in the US that has been up to 5% + $1 in some periods. That fee is on the buyer's side and does not come out of your payout, so don't subtract it when you work out your own net.
What does affect your payout: if you use Depop Payments, all fees are deducted before the money is deposited to your bank. If you sell via PayPal instead, proceeds go to your PayPal account and fees come off there as separate charges. Either way your net is the same. Depop's seller help article lists which payment method applies in your market, and remember the profit shown is before income tax, in the US, self-employment tax applies to what's left, as the IRS explains.
Depop vs Poshmark and Mercari on fees
Depop's 0% makes it the cheapest of the three big resale apps on fees, but the fee is only half the story. On a $40 item:
| Platform | Seller fee on $40 | Charged on |
|---|---|---|
| Depop (US) | $1.77 | Item + shipping + tax |
| Mercari | $4.00 | Item + buyer-paid shipping |
| Poshmark | $8.00 | Item price only |
Poshmark's 20% is the steepest headline rate, but it includes a prepaid shipping label that the other two make you buy. Mercari's 10% is flat with no subscription. Depop's near-zero fee is real, but the buyer base is smaller and skews younger, so volume can be lower. The honest answer is that the best platform is the one where your items sell, a 20% fee on a sale beats a 0% fee on a listing nobody sees.
Pricing for Depop's processing fee
Depop's fee is small but not zero, and the fixed $0.45 matters most on cheap items. On a $10 item, 3.3% + $0.45 = $0.78, or 7.8% of the sale. On a $50 item it's $2.10, or 4.2%. The fixed part is why a closet full of $8 tops makes less than it looks.
To work out the price that hits a target payout, use (target + $0.45) ÷ (1 − 0.033). To net $30 on an item that's ($30 + $0.45) ÷ 0.967 = $31.49. Add your shipping cost on top if you're covering postage. If you boost the listing, add 12% of the item price to that figure, or price about 15% higher to hold the same margin. Run your own numbers through the calculator with Boost toggled on and off to see the difference before you commit.
Frequently asked questions
How much does Depop take on a $20 sale?
For a US seller, a $20 item with no shipping costs 3.3% × $20 + $0.45 = $1.11 in payment processing, and there's no selling fee. You keep $18.89.
How much does Depop take on a $50 sale?
US seller, $50 item, no shipping: 3.3% × $50 + $0.45 = $2.10. You keep $47.90, about 4.2%. With Boost switched on, another 12% of the item price ($6.00) applies.
What are the fees on a $40 item with $5 shipping?
US seller: the order total is $45, and processing is 3.3% × $45 + $0.45 = $1.94. There's no selling fee, so Depop keeps $1.94 and you keep $43.06 before your item and shipping costs.
How much is the Depop Boost fee on a $100 item?
Boost costs 12% of the item price, so on a $100 item it's $12.00, charged only when a buyer who saw the boosted listing buys within 28 days. That's on top of the 3.3% + $0.45 processing.
How much does Depop charge sellers?

Does Depop charge a selling fee in the US?
No. Depop removed the 10% selling fee for US sellers in July 2024. Sellers outside the US, UK and Australia still pay a 10% selling fee plus processing.
What is the Depop Boost fee?
Boosting a listing costs 12% of the item price (US and UK) when a buyer who saw the boosted listing buys within 28 days. It is optional and only charged when a boosted listing sells.
What is the Depop payment processing fee charged on?
Processing is charged on the item price plus the shipping the buyer pays and any applicable sales tax, not just the item price.
Do I still pay fees if I offer free shipping?
Yes. The processing fee applies to the order total regardless of who pays shipping, so offering free shipping lowers your margin without reducing the fee.
Is Depop cheaper than Poshmark?
On fees, yes. A $40 item costs about $1.77 in Depop processing versus $8.00 in Poshmark commission. But Poshmark's fee includes a prepaid shipping label and has a larger, older buyer base, so the cheaper fee isn't automatically the better deal.
Does Depop charge a fee when an item doesn't sell?
No. Listing is free, there's no subscription, and the only charges are payment processing on completed sales plus any Boost fee on boosted sales.
Can I avoid Depop's processing fee?
No, payment processing applies to every sale, whether you use Depop Payments or PayPal. It's lower than a marketplace commission, but it can't be avoided.
