Key takeaways
- Level 1 pays 9% transaction plus 3% processing, falling to 7% at Level 5
- A $200 sale costs $29.00 all in at Level 1, a 14.5% take rate
- The prepaid label runs $5.00, which is also the US minimum seller fee
- Climbing from Level 1 to Level 5 saves $4.00 on a $200 sale
- Fees ride on the final sale price, so a $180 sale pays $26.60 instead of $29.00

What StockX takes on a Verified sale
A Verified Marketplace sale on StockX carries two percentage charges and one flat deduction. The transaction fee is set by your Seller Level and is charged on the final sale price: 9% at Level 1, falling half a point per level to 7% at Level 5. On top of that comes a 3% payment processing fee at every level. Then the prepaid shipping label to the authentication center is taken out of your payout, and StockX lists $5.00 as the US base rate for a single item.
StockX also publishes a minimum seller fee by region. In the United States it is $5.00, which matters on cheap items where the percentage math lands below the floor. StockX's seller fee page lists both the level rates and the regional minimums, and the shipping cost page lists the label rates.
The picture changes if your item sells on the Listings Marketplace or StockX Live. At launch StockX charges no selling, processing or shipping fee on either, and the buyer covers shipping and processing. Both are invitation-only, so most sellers are still on Verified.
The take rate is what to watch. At Level 1 a $200 sale costs you 14.5% all in once the label is counted. At Level 5 the same sale costs 12.5%.
Worked example: a $200 pair at Level 1
You list a pair at $200 and it sells at your ask. Here is the full split:
- Transaction fee (9% of $200.00): $18.00
- Payment processing (3% of $200.00): $6.00
- Prepaid shipping label: $5.00
- Total deductions: $29.00
- Your payout: $171.00
That $29.00 is 14.5% of the sale price, which is the number to carry around in your head. If the pair cost you $120, your profit is $171.00 minus $120.00, or $51.00, a 25.5% margin on the sale price and a 42.5% return on the $120 you tied up.
Note that the percentage fees ride on the final sale price, not your ask. If a buyer's bid knocks the sale down to $180, the fees drop to $26.60 and you keep $153.40. You saved $2.90 in fees and gave up $20.00 in revenue, which is the trade you make every time you accept a lower bid.
What each Seller Level saves you
Seller Levels come from quarterly activity counted across the Verified, Listings and Live marketplaces, and the activity resets at the end of each calendar quarter. Here is what each level costs on the same $200 sale, with the $5.00 label included:
| Level | Quarterly requirement | Transaction fee | Fees on a $200 sale | You keep |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Level 1 | None | 9.0% | $29.00 | $171.00 |
| Level 2 | 12 sales or $1,500 | 8.5% | $28.00 | $172.00 |
| Level 3 | 40 sales or $5,000 | 8.0% | $27.00 | $173.00 |
| Level 4 | 200 sales or $25,000 | 7.5% | $26.00 | $174.00 |
| Level 5 | 800 sales or $100,000 | 7.0% | $25.00 | $175.00 |
The whole ladder is worth $4.00 on a $200 sale, or two cents on the dollar. Moving from Level 1 to Level 2 alone gets you $1.00, and that needs 12 sales or $1,500 in a quarter. The level that pays off is Level 3, because 40 sales in three months is reachable for a side seller and it also unlocks the shipping bonuses, which can take another 2 percentage points off the transaction fee for sellers who ship fast and ship everything.
Where the $5 floor hurts
The minimum seller fee is the part of the schedule that catches people out, and it lands hardest on cheap items. At Level 1 the 9% rate does not reach $5.00 until the sale price hits $55.56, so anything below that pays the floor instead of the percentage. At Level 5 the 7% rate does not reach $5.00 until $71.43.
| Sale price | Transaction fee | Processing | Label | Total | You keep | Take rate |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| $20 | $5.00 | $0.60 | $5.00 | $10.60 | $9.40 | 53.0% |
| $50 | $5.00 | $1.50 | $5.00 | $11.50 | $38.50 | 23.0% |
| $100 | $9.00 | $3.00 | $5.00 | $17.00 | $83.00 | 17.0% |
| $200 | $18.00 | $6.00 | $5.00 | $29.00 | $171.00 | 14.5% |
| $500 | $45.00 | $15.00 | $5.00 | $65.00 | $435.00 | 13.0% |
A $20 sale is not a business, it is a donation. Ten and a half dollars of fees on a $20 item is 53% of the sale, and that is before you count what you paid for the item. The same math is why sellers with a stack of low-value items do better bundling them into one sale or moving them to a platform where the fees scale instead of flooring.
Shipping, penalties and returns
On Verified sales the label comes out of your payout, and StockX adjusts the charge for heavier items and multi-item packs. The published US base is $5.00 for a single item and $5.00 for bulk shipments, up from $4.00 on March 1, 2026. That increase costs a seller moving 100 pairs a quarter an extra $100.
Deadlines matter more than the fee. Sellers have two business days to hand the package to the carrier, and missing the window can trigger a $15 penalty fee on top of the usual charges, plus account restrictions or suspension for repeat offenders. A $15 penalty is three labels' worth of money, so a single late shipment wipes out the savings from reaching a higher level.
Returns are cheaper on the newer marketplaces. When an item sells on Listings or Live, the buyer pays shipping at checkout and the seller pays the return shipping only if the order comes back. On Verified, the item travels to StockX for authentication first, which is where the label cost and the extra days come from.
Pricing an ask that clears your cost
Work backwards from what you paid. The formula is (item cost + label) divided by (1 minus the transaction rate minus 0.03). With a $120 cost and a $5.00 label at Level 1, that is $125.00 divided by 0.88, or $142.05. List below that and a full-price sale still loses money. At Level 5 the same pair only needs $138.89.
StockX is a bid and ask market, so your ask is a ceiling rather than a promise. Two habits keep the math honest. First, set the ask at least 20% above your break-even price, because sneaker prices move and a pair that clears $142 today may only draw bids at $130 next month. Second, check what the lowest ask is doing before you list, since undercutting by $1 is cheaper than sitting on inventory for a quarter and missing the sales volume that gets you to Level 2.
One more number worth knowing: your break-even ask rises by about $1.14 for every $1.00 of extra cost you carry, because the platform takes its cut on the way out. A $10 jump in what you pay for a pair needs a $11.36 higher ask to stand still.
When the Listings Marketplace beats Verified
If your item sells on the Listings Marketplace, StockX charges the seller nothing: no transaction fee, no processing, no shipping. The buyer pays processing, shipping and an optional verification fee, and you keep the full sale price. On a $200 sale that is the difference between $171.00 and $200.00, which is $29.00, the largest single fee swing available to a seller on the platform.
The catch is access. Listings is invitation-only with a waitlist, so treat it as an upgrade you apply for rather than a switch you flip. The same goes for StockX Live, where the seller also keeps the full price except on giveaway orders, where the seller covers shipping.
Do you owe tax on StockX sales?
Profit from reselling is taxable income, and the marketplace form is not what creates the obligation. The federal 1099-K threshold for payment apps and marketplaces is over $20,000 in gross payments and more than 200 transactions, so a side seller moving 30 pairs a year gets no form and still owes tax on the gain. The IRS 1099-K page is explicit that all income from selling goods must be reported regardless of amount.
States can go lower. California matches the federal $20,000 and 200-transaction test for marketplaces but keeps a $600 threshold for app-based drivers, as the California FTB sets out. Check your own state before you assume you are below every line.
Keep receipts for what you paid, because your cost basis decides whether a flip is a gain or a loss, and keep the payout statements, since the fees and labels are deductible against the sale. A pair bought at $120 and sold at $200 with $29.00 in fees produces $51.00 of taxable profit, not $80.00.
Frequently asked questions
What are StockX seller fees in 2026?
On the Verified Marketplace the seller pays a transaction fee of 9% at Level 1 down to 7% at Level 5, charged on the final sale price, plus a 3% payment processing fee, plus the prepaid shipping label. The US minimum seller fee is $5.00 and the US label base rate is $5.00 for a single item.
How much does StockX take on a $200 sale?
$29.00 at Level 1: $18.00 transaction, $6.00 processing and a $5.00 label. That is a 14.5% take rate and leaves you $171.00. At Level 5 the same sale costs $25.00, so you keep $175.00.
What is the StockX minimum seller fee?
StockX lists $5.00 as the minimum seller fee for US Verified sales. It applies when the percentage transaction fee would come in below that floor, which at Level 1 happens on any sale under $55.56.
How much does StockX shipping cost the seller?
The US base rate is $5.00 for a single item and $5.00 for bulk shipments, deducted from your payout. It rose from $4.00 on March 1, 2026, and StockX adjusts the charge for heavier items and multi-item packs.
How do I reach Level 2 on StockX?
Complete 12 sales or $1,500 in sales value in a calendar quarter. That drops your transaction fee from 9% to 8.5%, which saves $1.00 on a $200 sale. Level 3 needs 40 sales or $5,000 and saves $2.00.
Does my Seller Level reset?
Yes. StockX counts your activity per calendar quarter across the Verified, Listings and Live marketplaces, and the count resets at the end of each quarter. Four quarters in a row at 40 sales each keeps you at Level 3.
What does StockX charge on the Listings Marketplace?
Nothing at launch. The seller pays no selling, processing or shipping fee, and the buyer covers processing, shipping and optional verification. On a $200 sale that is $200.00 in your pocket instead of $171.00, but Listings is invitation-only.
What happens if I ship late on StockX?
Sellers have two business days to hand the package to the carrier. Missing the window can cost a $15.00 penalty fee, plus account restrictions or suspension. One $15.00 penalty is more than the fee savings from two Seller Levels.
How much do I keep on a $50 StockX sale?
$38.50. The transaction fee floors at $5.00 instead of $4.50, processing adds $1.50 and the label adds $5.00, so $11.50 comes off a $50 sale, a 23% take rate.
What is the take rate on a $500 sale at Level 3?
12%. The transaction fee is 8% of $500, or $40.00, processing is $15.00 and the label is $5.00, so $60.00 comes off and you keep $440.00.
Does StockX charge fees on my ask price or the sale price?
The final sale price. If you ask $200 and a bid settles at $180, the transaction fee falls to $16.20 and processing to $5.40, so you keep $153.40. Accepting a $20 lower bid saves $2.40 in fees and costs you $20.00 in revenue.
Is StockX cheaper than eBay for sneakers?
They land close. On a $200 sale, eBay's 13.6% final value fee plus $0.40 leaves $172.40, while StockX at Level 1 leaves $171.00 after the label. StockX bundles authentication into that cost, which eBay sellers pay separately through a service.
How much are StockX fees on a $100 sale?
$17.00 at Level 1: $9.00 transaction, $3.00 processing and a $5.00 label, so you keep $83.00, a 17% take rate. At Level 5 the transaction fee drops to $7.00 and you keep $85.00.
Will StockX send me a 1099-K?
Only if your gross payments through the platform exceed $20,000 and you have more than 200 transactions in the year, which is the federal threshold for marketplaces. Your profit is taxable either way, and your cost basis plus the fees you paid reduce what you owe.
