School math is full of small calculations that matter a lot: what grade a score turns into, how many questions you can miss and still pass, and what a final exam will do to your average. These tools answer them in seconds so a student can plan instead of worry.

Percentages and letter grades

There is no national grading scale in the US, so the same score can land differently from one school to the next. On the common 10-point scale, 90% is an A and 80% is a B. On the 7-point scale, an A starts at 93%. A score of 87% is a solid B on the 10-point scale but sits only 2 points above the B floor on the 7-point scale, so knowing which scale your class uses changes how you read the number. Points work the same way: 43 out of 50 is 86%, which is a B and 4 points clear of a C.

The mistake is chasing points without knowing the scale. Ask your teacher which one applies, then aim for the top of the band you are in.
