Text tools solve two quiet problems: how long a piece of writing is, and what shape the letters should take. A meta description that runs long gets cut off in search results, and a headline in the wrong case looks careless. Both tools run in your browser, so nothing you paste leaves your device.
Counting words and characters
The number you need depends on where the text is going. A Google meta description is best near 155 characters including spaces, an X post allows 280, and a YouTube title caps at 100. The word counter shows both totals, with and without spaces, because a limit that looks comfortable without spaces can be over once spaces count. The sentence Free tools for everyday math. is 29 characters with spaces and 24 without, and those five spaces are the difference between passing and failing a tight limit. Reading time uses 200 words a minute, and speaking time uses 130, so a 1,000 word article is about 5 minutes to read and about 8 to say aloud.
Choosing the right case
- Title Case capitalizes the major words and is used for headlines and page titles.
- Sentence case capitalizes only the first word and proper nouns, and is the modern default for body text and buttons.
- camelCase and PascalCase join words with capitals for code, like myVariableName and MyClassName.
- snake_case and kebab-case use underscores or hyphens, and kebab-case is the standard for URLs and CSS class names.
The plain formats leave your punctuation alone, while the developer formats strip it and rebuild word boundaries, so check the result before you paste it into code.
